Our History
I have been fishing for about 50 years; it is a true addiction. This passion started in 1965. Until 1974, I happily focused on coarse fishing, until I caught my first carp—I was immediately hooked! I fished for carp using a float and baits such as potatoes, sheep pellets, bread flakes, worms, and dough.
In 1980, something new hit the market: boilies. I was one of the first to start fishing with them on the Sloterplas in Amsterdam. My peak years were from 1982 to 1998; it might sound exaggerated, but during that time we caught a few hundred carp per season on the Sloterplas (I lived right next to it back then). After I moved, I expanded my horizons to truly large waters, with great success. From 1994 to 2006, I also dedicated several years to competitive match fishing.
Today, I am an all-round angler. In the spring and autumn, I fish for predators like pike and zander. In May, I love to spend a week in Norway fishing for cod and large saithe, and in the summer and autumn, I return to carp fishing. I enjoy every fish I catch, big or small. After all, if you don't appreciate the small ones, you've forgotten how to enjoy the sport!
From Hobby to Profession
In June of the year 2000, I turned my hobby into my profession and opened a tackle shop: Hengelsport 2000 at the Christiaan Huygensplein in Amsterdam. After 15 years, we literally outgrew the building.
Our Shop in Diemen
In January 2015, we moved to a larger, completely renewed shop in Diemen. I now proudly run this store together with my son Danny and my wife Zamira.
Danny is a three-time youth champion in coarse fishing in Amsterdam. Nowadays, he still regularly goes out on the boat to fish for pike and zander, and he has heavily specialized in carp fishing. He is the perfect person to answer any of your specific questions and offer expert advice.
